In particular, this is the EU's participation in the negotiations on the side of Ukraine.
The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen named three conditions for achieving a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine.
As reported by Unian, she announced this during her speech at the Munich Security Conference.
In particular, the President of the European Commission was asked whether she would participate in future negotiations dedicated to ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
“Absolutely, because Ukraine needs a fair and lasting peace. If we want to achieve this goal — and it is very important that we have a fair peace, because others are watching to see if we adhere to our principles... Therefore, this is only possible with the European Union, which is on the side of Ukraine,” von der Leyen emphasized.
In this regard, she named security guarantees as another component, and the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU as another.
“These are three conditions for having a fair and lasting peace,” von der Leyen is convinced.
In addition, she said that Europe is striving to speed up the process of Ukraine's acquisition of EU membership.
“We want to step up our work to speed up the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. We have already made significant progress. But again, now is the time to move mountains in the European Union,” von der Leyen noted.
She also said that it is necessary to increase the possibilities for spending from national budgets, advocate for joint European funding for projects of common European interest, and speed up the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
“This should be the goal of the new Europe, which is working hard to achieve these goals,” the President of the European Commission said.
