He wanted to pay off, but ended up in jail.
The court of Navabelitski district of Homel has sentenced a man in a case of attempted bribery on a particularly large scale. The defendant, who was under investigation under the tax article, tried to bribe the officers of the Department of Financial Investigations to avoid prosecution, writes Onliner.
In the summer of 2024, during a search in his flat, the man offered the head of the investigation team first $20 thousand, and then increased the amount to $50 thousand. He hoped that in this way he would be able to close the case and hide from the inspectors the safe, which contained $700 thousand and 26 million Russian rubles. However, his attempts to bribe were ignored.
During the trial, the Homel resident admitted that he had deliberately not informed about the existence of the stash behind the refrigerator. However, he claimed that he had offered only 20 thousand Russian rubles to stop the search, and denied the fact of bribery on a particularly large scale.
Nevertheless, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to six years' imprisonment in a reinforced regime penal colony. The convict is also required to pay a fine of 1,000 basic units (Br42,000).
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
