After exiting the BRELL unified power system.
On February 8, the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) disconnected from the BRELL power system (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and switched to an isolated mode of operation. This event was marked by the appearance on the network of videos and photos demonstrating the dismantling of power lines that previously connected the Baltic countries with Russia and Belarus.
In particular, the Latvian company AST (electricity transmission system operator) published footage of the dismantling of the 330-kilowatt line connecting Latvia with Russia. The Minister of Climate and Energy of Latvia, Kaspars Melnis, called the disconnection from BRELL “historic” and important for the country's energy security, sharing photos from the scene on social media.
A video also appeared on the Internet, which allegedly depicts trimming lines in Lithuania, but the authenticity of the video is doubtful: it was shot not in winter, and there are no identification marks of the Lithuanian operator Litgrid on the worker's clothes. The representative of Litgrid, Donatas Matelionis, in turn, said that some of the lines connecting the country with Belarus and Russia have already been dismantled in Lithuania, and the work will continue.
According to him, the power lines connecting the Baltic countries with Russia and Belarus were going to be completely dismantled by the end of February 2025.
