The dictator recalled poverty and “gray horses”.
Lukashenka demanded that the government ensure fair prices on Belarusian shelves and equalize the rights of private and state enterprises. He stated this on February 28 at a meeting in Minsk.
“If you think that we will tolerate it until the elections, as it happens in other countries, and after the elections it will go by itself, as it always has, God forbid. A death sentence at the very least!” Aliaksandr Lukashenka sternly warned officials.
He agreed that this work requires great effort and the problem is really complicated. But if, according to the politician, we act according to the simple “supply and demand” scheme, then everything will be simple and nothing will need to be done.
“This is a load. Nobody wants to work. So I tell you as a human being: whoever cannot and does not want to, do not sit in these positions. If you don't want to, go. I haven't tied anyone down. Today is the moment to leave gracefully. But there will be no retreat,” Lukashenka's press service quotes him as saying. “We have all practically emerged, if not from poverty... I came from poverty. I know how ordinary poor people lived. And you are not ministerial children.”
“You haven't forgotten how ordinary people live. Let's help them. Let's make the slackers who walk around wagging their tongues work. I have also given such an order. I took it upon myself, I gave orders. All power is in our hands. And to talk about “this is what the European Union is like, the Americans are like this, Russia has…” We have no reason to look up to them. Russia, if it wants, will be the richest country. The Americans will want to — they will print as many dollars as they need. The Europeans are technologically advanced countries, well-built. Normal leaders will come, the European Union will work. And what should we do in this environment? Fight, like in Ukraine? Everything starts with the economy, I'm saying this for the 25th time," Lukashenka emphasized.
He instructed the government to develop a new form of fair pricing. However, what is meant by this fairness?
“Firstly, for the consumer, the common man, fairness lies in the absence of speculation and a reasonable price for the final product. I'm not talking about Gucci, Versace, etc. If you want, buy imported goods. But we can produce a similar product,” Lukashenka noted. “Secondly. For enterprises — those who produce — fairness must take into account adequate profit. But profit is price minus costs. If you want more profit, switch from a Mercedes to a gray horse. I'm speaking in common parlance.”
