Pentagon Chief Orders Halt To All Military Cyber Operations Against Russia
PETE HEGSETH

Hegseth's order was given personally to the head of Cyber Command, General Timothy Ho.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the US Cyber Command to halt its planning against Russia, including offensive cyber operations, the Record reports, citing three sources familiar with the situation.

The timing of Hegseth's order is unknown, but the command has been told that it will be in effect “for the foreseeable future,” the publication's sources said. US Cyber Command is currently conducting a “risk assessment” that will provide Hegseth with a list of all missions that have been “frozen”, as well as potential threats that still emanate from Russia.

Hegseth's order was given personally to the head of Cyber Command, General Timothy Ho, who in turn passed it on to his subordinates, including Major General Ryan Herritage, who oversees the operational activities of the US cyber forces.

The order may also affect operations related to assistance to Ukraine, Record writes. Previously, Cyber Command sent specialists to Kyiv to strengthen Ukraine's “digital” defense, as well as to study Moscow's capabilities, including for intelligence purposes.

The future of the cyber forces' specialists, numbering almost 6,000 people, remains unclear. Among them, every fourth deals with Russia, which is considered a bastion of global cybercrime, and has also been involved in numerous cyberattacks against American private companies and government agencies.

Hegseth's order was given about a week ago, Record sources say. And so it is not related to the controversial talks between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, which resulted in a 10-minute live-streamed spat and ended with the Ukrainian delegation being ejected from the White House. The order does not apply to the National Security Agency and its signals intelligence work against Russia.
