Ukraine carried out drone strikes on seven regions of Russia, damaging industrial facilities in the Kaluga, Saratov, Voronezh, Tambov, and Rostov regions, The Moscow Times reports.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the attack began at 8:00 PM on March 12 and lasted for approximately 11 hours. The ministry claimed that 77 drones were "intercepted and destroyed."
In the Kaluga region, 25 drones were shot down, according to Governor Vladislav Shapsha. He stated that one of them crashed into an "industrial facility in the Dzerzhinsky district," causing a fire. One employee sustained minor injuries and received medical assistance. The area is home to the "First Plant" oil refinery, which was previously attacked in May last year. Shapsha also reported damage to a communication tower and power lines in the Khvastovichsky district.
In the Saratov region, drones damaged "non-residential facilities in the Petrovsky district," said Governor Roman Busargin. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties. Based on video footage, Astra reports that the "Gazovaya" electrical substation in the settlement of Prigorodny was hit.
Ukrainian sources claim the target was the Petrovsk Line Production Facility of Main Gas Pipelines, which is responsible for gas transportation across the Saratov and Penza regions and has five compressor workshops, one of which was reportedly struck, according to former Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko. Indirectly supporting this claim, Rosaviatsia (Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency) implemented the "Kover" plan in the airports of Saratov and Penza.
In the Rostov region, a drone crash in the Sholokhovsky district caused a fire at an enterprise in the Kalininsky hamlet, acting regional head Yuri Slyusar reported. According to him, only "grass" caught fire, and the facility itself was not damaged.
In the Tambov region, drones fell within the Morshansk municipal district, damaging infrastructure at one of the enterprises, said acting Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov. No casualties were reported.
In the Voronezh region, on the evening of March 12, drones struck an "infrastructure facility" in the southern part of the region, causing a fire, Governor Gusev reported. He stated that no one was injured.
The Ministry of Defense’s statement did not mention the Saratov and Tambov regions. However, it did report drones being shot down in the border regions of Bryansk (30), Belgorod (5), and Kursk (6).
