Drones Of New Type Hit One Of Russia’s Largest Oil Refineries In Volgograd

A powerful fire broke out after a dozen explosions.

On the night of March 15, Ukrainian drones attacked another Russian oil refinery: this time, an oil refinery in the Volgograd region was hit. Local channels reported a series of powerful explosions, the operation of an anti-aircraft system, and a fire at the site of the “falling debris.” Focus collected information about the night shelling of Russia.

At about 02:30, Russian public pages reported a probable air raid alarm due to drones moving in the direction of the regional center. A few minutes later, powerful explosions were heard.

Soon, Russians reported the first consequences of the drone attack. According to a local channel, a fire broke out in Kotluban due to the downing of a drone.

At about 03:15, local authorities at the Volgograd airport introduced the “Carpet” plan and imposed restrictions on the airport's operation.

The Volgograd Telegram channel reported that it was allegedly not the oil refinery itself that was burning, but the “reeds” around the enterprise's territory.

According to Russians, the Volgograd region is being attacked not by the usual drones, but by jet developments of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as unknown “new types” of attack drones.

According to local residents, they heard about ten explosions in one of the districts of Volgograd and in the village of Kotluban. Moreover, the explosions are allegedly still ongoing.

Soon, the first footage of the aftermath of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the oil refinery in the Volgograd region appeared. The video shows a huge column of smoke rising from the site of the impact and a large-scale fire unfolding.

Let us note though that there has been no official information about the attack on the Volgograd Oil Refinery yet. The air raid alert is still ongoing, and Russians are recording more drone groups heading towards the plant.

Lukoil-Volgogradnaftopererabotka, which is considered the largest producer of oil products in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation and the sixth largest oil refinery in Russia, could have been targeted. Its capacity is 14.8 million tons per year.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have already struck this plant. A massive attack took place at the end of January 2025, and damage was recorded as a result of the strikes.
