Dozens of people are trapped under rubble in Bangkok.

A strong earthquake measuring up to 7.7 has hit Bangkok, causing panic among residents. The tremors were felt in different parts of the city, causing construction cranes to shake and water to spill from rooftop pools, the media reports.

One of the most serious consequences was the collapse of a high-rise building under construction. Bangkok police confirmed that the high-rise building had collapsed, trapping 43 people, Le Monde reports.

A dramatic video circulated on social media shows a high-rise building with a crane on top being pushed into a cloud of dust, with spectators screaming and running away.

Eyewitnesses report a thick column of dust that was visible from different parts of the city.

The Bangkok earthquake has caused the subway to be suspended and passengers to be evacuated. Authorities have urged residents to avoid high-rise buildings and seek safe shelter. Rescue services are already working in the affected areas.

According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake also struck neighboring Myanmar. About 12 minutes later, another strong tremor of magnitude 6.4 was recorded, CNN reports.

Residents of Yangon (Myanmar) say that the tremors lasted about a minute.

“We felt the earthquake for about a minute, and then we ran out of the building. We saw other people running out of the buildings. It was very sudden and very strong,” eyewitnesses say.

After the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar, another tremor occurred 12 minutes later, although of lesser strength. This second earthquake caused serious damage: a bridge over the Irrawaddy River, which was more than a kilometer long, collapsed.

The bridge was an important transport artery connecting the suburbs of Mandalay, the country's second-largest city, with the city of Sikai. In addition, in some areas, the destruction of residential buildings was recorded.

As a result of these tremors, airports in Thailand were temporarily closed for safety reasons. The aftershocks even reached China's Yunnan Province, which borders Myanmar, where tremors were also felt.
