Ukrainian Forces Attack One Of The Largest Oil Refineries Near St. Petersburg

In the early morning of March 8, the Leningrad Region of Russia was restless: an air raid alarm was declared in the Kirishi district of the region, local residents heard a series of explosions, and the air defense was actively working.

According to local authorities, the region was under attack by Ukrainian attack drones.

At about 06:00 in the morning, the Governor of the Russian Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, reported on his Telegram channel about the consequences of the attack by Ukrainian drones on the region. According to him, the air defense allegedly managed to shoot down all the drones that were trying to attack KINEF (Kirishinefteorgsintez).

“The UAV attack on KINEF in the Kirishi district was repelled. "The air defense forces shot down one drone on approach, and another was destroyed over the territory of the plant," Drozdenko said.

The Russian official also added that one of the plant's tanks was damaged by debris from a drone that was shot down by the air defense system.

According to preliminary information, there are no casualties, and the data on damage to the plant's facilities is being clarified.

"UAVs attacked Kirishinefteorgsintez in the Kirishi district of the Leningrad region. As a result, one of the tanks was damaged, and there was a strong fire there," the influential Russian Telegram channel VChK-OGPU reported.

The night was also restless in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation: locals heard a series of explosions, and local authorities reported at least 20 downed attack drones over the region. There is no information yet on the consequences of the attack in the Krasnodar region.

KINEF (Kirishinefteorgsintez) is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia. According to open sources, it is one of the five most powerful enterprises of this type in the Russian Federation. The plant produces all types of fuel, and also produces products for the oil refining and paint and varnish industries, for household chemicals and construction materials enterprises.
