Political Prisoner Pavel Yukhnevich Released

The European Belarus activist has fully served his five-year sentence.

According to ‘Belsat’ sources, ‘European Belarus’ activist Pavel Yukhnevich was released from the penal colony №22 in Ivatsevichy after serving a 5-year sentence.

The activist was detained on 25 September 2020, law enforcers with weapons broke into the flat through the window and door. Pavel was accused of participating in mass riots under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Belarus.

On 25 May 2021, Mahiliou Regional Court sentenced Yukhnevich to 5 years' imprisonment. Pavel was kept in pre-trial detention centre until the trial. According to the law, a day spent in the pre-trial detention centre counts for one and a half days spent in the colony.
