The UK may deploy troops to Ukraine for up to five years. This is one of the options being discussed by Western allies.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
According to the British edition, official London is considering the possibility of deploying UK troops in Ukraine for a period of 5 years. It is planned that such deployment should help to train and rebuild the Ukrainian army to prevent a new military aggression by the Russian Federation.
During discussions between Britain and France on the ‘Coalition of the Resolute’, the issue of a phased withdrawal of the contingent was raised.
According to The Telegraph, according to the plan of ‘one of the options on the table’, a European-led military force would be sent to Ukraine to first deter Russia from breaking any agreement, and to give the Ukrainian side ‘a much-needed respite’.
It is also noted that the possibility that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would dare to attack Western forces in Ukraine amid the current state of his own army and its capabilities is considered ‘very unlikely’ by French military planners.
According to the plan, a ‘pacification force’ led by France and Britain could also help protect Ukraine's skies and seas.
It is noted, however, that the main purpose of deploying would be to begin immediately to help train and rebuild the Ukrainian Armed Forces to deter a potential next Russian attack.
Later, the Western contingent should withdraw from Ukraine in stages, and the last troops could leave in about five years, according to The Telegraph.
It is worth adding that British, Danish and German intelligence chiefs believe that Putin could be ready for a new attack in as little as five years.
The British publication also reminded of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's March statement that a ‘significant number’ of countries were ready to provide peacekeeping troops to Ukraine in case of a peace agreement with Russia.
