Ukraine To Receive New Military Aid Package For 580 Million Dollars

Ukraine To Receive New Military Aid Package For 580 Million Dollars

From Britain and Norway.

Britain and Norway will help finance the delivery of hundreds of thousands of drones to Ukraine as part of a new $580 million (£450 million) military support package.

This was reported by the British Ministry of Defence and Bloomberg.

Britain and Norway are expected to announce such a joint package from existing funding pools on Friday at a meeting of Ukraine's partners to be chaired by the United Kingdom and Germany in Brussels.

Britain's Ministry of Defence says it will help fund the ‘rapid’ delivery of first-person unmanned aerial vehicles (FPV drones) to Ukraine.

The funding will also provide for the repair and maintenance of Ukrainian military vehicles and equipment, as well as radar systems and anti-tank mines.

The types of drones to be delivered to the front line in Ukraine will be purchased from UK and Ukrainian suppliers. The package will also help fund the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

It is noted that the funding came as UK Defence Chief John Gili chairs a meeting of the Ukrainian Defence Contact Group in Brussels with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius.

According to the British defence chief, the work of such a Contact Group (known as the Ramstein meeting) is ‘vital to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position and to increase pressure on Putin (Russian dictator Vladimir Putin) to help get him to end this terrible war.’

Britain's Aid to Ukraine

Britain's Ministry of Defence said the country is ‘fully committed to working with allies to step up support to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position to secure peace, and is increasing support - providing £4.5 billion (about $5.8 billion, - ed.) of military support this year - more than ever before.’

The British defence ministry points out that such support is ‘vital to European security’.

Last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a historic £1.6 billion agreement to provide Ukraine with more than 5,000 air defence missiles.

The UK has sent around 400 different assets and funds to Ukraine:

on 12 February, a £150 million package was announced (included drones, tanks and air defence systems),

on 19 December 2024, London announced a £225 million support package for Ukraine (included UAVs, boats and munitions),

and on 6 September last year, the British side announced the delivery of 650 light multipurpose missiles to Ukraine as part of defence assistance.
