Who is Sergei Glazyev?
While everyone is busy discussing some executive committee woman who called on Belarusians to stand on one leg with a bucket or something else on their heads in honor of Victory Day, Lukashenka and Putin quietly made a small and inconspicuous appointment. Perhaps they put the object on the woman's head on purpose so that everyone would be distracted and not notice Glazyev. But the guy is worth noticing.
Yesterday, Sergei Glazyev became the state secretary of the “union state”. Of course, the first logical reaction to such news is a bored “so what, no union state exists anyway, big deal.” Yes, it may seem it does not exist. But the joint military exercises “West” and “Allied Resolve”, Russian troops in Belarus, the Wagner, which now has one of its main bases here, are a reality. So Belarus is already participating in the war against Ukraine, and the military “allied” program can be considered practically implemented. The economy remains — or rather, what Russian “investors” like Gazprom have not yet had a hand in. And here the new Secretary of State Sergei Glazyev appears on the scene.
The position of Secretary of State has always been a regular sinecure for those who have demonstrated loyalty to both dictators for many years and earned the right to live for their own pleasure, doing nothing and not being responsible for anything. First, the Secretary of State was the charming swindler Pavel Borodin, then the KGB agent Grigory Rapota, then the former Russian ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev. Everyone enjoyed high salaries and no responsibilities, banquets and baths after joint meetings, closeness to the holders of real power and the opportunity to “resolve issues”. (By the way, not a single Belarusian was allowed into the cushy position.) But Glazyev is different: unlike his predecessors, he is not looking for peace and money, but for the restoration of the empire. He will not lie down under a blanket with a glass of whiskey during his tenure, but will work. He will develop vigorous activity, and will not imitate it. A petty ghoul in appearance, in fact he is persistent and active. Glazyev is a kind of economic Dugin. Yes, he was once a young economist and communicated with reformers like Yegor Gaidar, participated in the work of the Perestroika club. But already in the mid-nineties, nature took over: “Congress of Russian Communities”, the “Rodina” bloc, a duet with Rogozin, participation in the financing and organization of “Antimaidan”, “Ukrainians are Nazis”. And, of course, an author's column in the newspaper “Zavtra”: where else would a real patriot publish if not with Prokhanov? For example, he scared his readers by saying that Ukraine intended to return the Donbas and populate it with Jews. He talked about the outstanding Lukashenka, who created an economic miracle. He called Maidan a neo-Nazi coup. He drew parallels between the oppressed Russian people and the no less oppressed peoples of Africa, who suffered for centuries from Western colonialism, and are now obliged to get together and deal the West a mortal blow from which it will not recover. He claimed that “after the end of the Second World War and the incorporation of the territories of the former Ukraine into the Russian state, Belarus will automatically join it.” Then Kazakhstan and so on, because the revival of the empire, to begin with, within the borders of the USSR is the most important and primary task of Russia. But even after the restoration of the Soviet empire, Glazyev wrote, one cannot stop, because the former borders of the USSR are only an intermediate achievement on the path to building a great superpower. And, of course, “Russians and Ukrainians are one people,” “Russia will win the world war unleashed by the West,” “we need to abandon the dollar and declare the SSU a terrorist organization.” However, you don't have to waste time on quotes, just read the headlines: “Ideology or Death!”, “The Synthesis of Coronavirus Was Carried Out in the USA by Order of the World Financial Oligarchy,” “Russia is Called to Become the Locomotive of the Coalition for the Creation of a New World Economic Order,” “The Restoration of the Empire is Salvation for Russia,” “They Are Trying to Destroy Russia.”
Alchen’s blue thieves, who were dreaming while sitting in a comfortable chair that no one would bother them, have been replaced by an ideological imperialist, who is dreaming of a Russia from Brest to the Kuril Islands. And this, especially against the backdrop of the war, is dangerous. Much more dangerous than the executive committee fools with books on their heads.
