A vdeo fact.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully used the American M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket system to destroy the Russian BM-27 Uragan MLRS. The target was detected thanks to the reconnaissance drone of the Black Forest brigade.
The footage of the combat operation was published by the press service of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Russian 220-mm rocket launcher was located by the road, had a full set of ammunition and was under the observation of a Ukrainian drone, which transmitted the coordinates to the artillerymen and adjusted the fire.
A single high-precision GMLRS projectile fired from a HIMARS launcher was used to destroy the target. Although the rocket fell several meters further from the launcher itself, the debris caused the ammunition to ignite, which led to the complete destruction of the system.
Advantages of HIMARS
Military experts note that the American HIMARS system differs from the Soviet MLRS Grad and Uragan primarily in its accuracy. While Russian systems use unguided rockets that create an area-of-effect effect, HIMARS is equipped with high-precision GPS-guided munitions, such as GMLRS (Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System). This allows targets to be hit with minimal deviation and without the need for a massive salvo.
In addition, HIMARS wins in mobility, reload speed and range. Such technological accuracy allows for the effective destruction of both stationary and moving targets, minimizing the consumption of ammunition and the time to carry out a fire mission.
