The host countries of the 2026 Futsal Euro are against Belarus' participation in the tournament.
Lithuania and Latvia have called for a ban on Belarus' participation in the 2026 European Futsal Championship, which will be held in these countries in early 2026, Euroradio reports.
Head of the Latvian Football Federation Vadim Lashenko said that “we cannot organize a tournament with Belarus' participation.”
— By the end of this week or the beginning of next week, we will have a clear understanding of how this will happen.
A lot is unknown at the moment, because it is obvious that we cannot organize an event with Belarus' participation in Latvia, both from a legislative and ethical point of view.
Communication is ongoing with UEFA, the Lithuanian Football Federation, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia and the head of the UAF Andriy Shevchenko, and as soon as we have a clear position from UEFA, we will definitely inform the public, — Vadim Lashenko told local media.
Lithuania will also seek to prevent Belarus from participating in the tournament.
— It is clear that we will not play with them [Belarus — Euroradio], and they will not be here in Lithuania. My position in this case will be tough, — the president of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) Edgaras Stankevičius told the portal tv3.lt.
He confirmed the words of his Latvian colleague that the joint position of Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine will be made public in the near future.
According to Stankevičius, if UEFA does allow Belarus to participate in the championship, the decision will be made by the LFF itself.
Let us recall that earlier the Belarusian national futsal team qualified for the final part of the European Championship, which is to be hosted by Lithuania and Latvia in 2026.
