He was also involved in monitoring the situation in southeastern Ukraine.

Russian General Yaroslav Moskalyk, who was killed in a bombing in the Moscow region, headed a combat control group within the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. This group was responsible for monitoring the war zone in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.

This was reported in an obituary published by the Russian Defense Ministry’s newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda, according to nv.ua.

The article states that from 2015 to 2021, Moskalyk was part of a Russian Defense Ministry working group on security issues within the Minsk Contact Group.

He took part in efforts to “resolve the situation in southeastern Ukraine,” including attending meetings in Minsk and participating in Normandy Format negotiations in Berlin and Paris. Moskalyk also prepared reports for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin about developments in southeastern Ukraine.

In addition, Moskalyk was involved in planning Russia’s military operation in Syria and later handled other matters in that theater, including aspects of “conflict resolution.”

On April 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he had received briefings from the heads of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service and Security Service. In particular, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service reported on the elimination of individuals from the top command ranks of the Russian Armed Forces.
