ISW: Only Two Factors Can Ensure Peace in Ukraine

France, the United Kingdom, and Italy are actively working on this.

A strong Ukrainian army, reinforced by European security guarantees, remains the most effective deterrent against future Russian aggression. These factors are key to ensuring long-term peace in Ukraine and Europe.

Currently, France, the UK, and Italy are working to provide Ukraine with security guarantees after a peace agreement is reached. This is stated in the analysis by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the first level of security guarantees for Ukraine must be its own military, which serves as the "first line of defense in deterrence." At the same time, the NATO chief assured that European countries are working on security guarantees to help prevent future Russian aggression.

Meanwhile, representatives of the French General Staff added that France and the UK will work on defining and developing "assurance operations" to deter Russia from future aggression after the implementation of a peace agreement.

ISW analysts agreed that a strong Ukrainian army, supported by Western security guarantees, remains the most crucial component of Europe's post-war security architecture. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will be the key to ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine and deterring future Russian aggression.
