The trade war is gaining momentum.
In response to the trade duties imposed by the United States, China is considering banning the screening of Hollywood films.
This is reported by the Daily Mail, citing a statement by a Chinese journalist associated with the Communist Party. In an interview with BBC Radio, he said that Beijing plans to raise tariffs on American agricultural products, as well as a ban on imports of American poultry and imports of American films.
Last year, American films made $585 million in China (about 3.5 per cent of the $17.71 billion in box office receipts). The screening ban could result in significant financial losses for Hollywood studios.
For example, upcoming releases such as ‘Jurassic World 2,’ ‘Reckoning 2’ and the sequel to ‘Mission Impossible’ could lose hundreds of millions of dollars at the Chinese box office.
