‘It Worked’: Expert Explains The Significance Of The Ukrainian Operation In Belgorod Region

The expert outlined what the further development of events will depend on.

Thanks to the actions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, the enemy was forced to halt the movement of its troops and resources from Kursk region and redirect them to Russia’s Belgorod region to establish defensive operations there. Military expert Vladyslav Seleznov stated this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel today, April 9.

"The devil, as usual, is in the details. And the presence of Ukrainian Defense Forces on the territory of Russia’s Belgorod region, specifically in the area of the village of Demidovka, Krasnoyaruzhsky district, is not a big secret. Virtually all Ukrainian monitoring resources have confirmed that active combat operations are taking place in the border area of Belgorod region," the expert said.

The necessity of carrying out such a military operation on this scale by Ukraine’s Defense Forces, according to the expert, is obvious.

"After the enemy managed to push a significant part of Ukrainian forces and assets out of Kursk region, a considerable amount of Russian resources was planned to be redirected to other sectors of the front. These included the southern part of the Zaporizhzhia region, Toretsk, Chasiv Yar, and the direction toward Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. This would have undoubtedly created significant problems for Ukrainian defenders operating in these sectors. In order to divert a large portion of the enemy’s redeployed resources, the Ukrainian army attacked one of the areas in Belgorod region. And this tactic worked," Seleznov said.

According to him, the enemy was forced to stop the movement of troops and resources, redirect them from Kursk region to Belgorod, initiate defensive actions, and launch counteroffensive measures there.

"As a result, the plan to redeploy Russian airborne troops, who were supposed to operate in the Zaporizhzhia region toward Orikhiv, failed. Of course, discussing the potential expansion of the situation in Belgorod region is not advisable in terms of scaling up operations. A significant amount of forces and resources would be needed for the Ukrainian army to establish a larger foothold there. However, the fact that we have managed to divert a considerable amount of Russian resources and effectively disrupt the plans of the Russian General Staff is undeniable," the military expert emphasized.

The further development of the situation, Seleznov believes, will depend on the availability of resources.

"If the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the capabilities, strength, and resources to attack the enemy not only in Kursk and Belgorod but also in Bryansk regions, then most likely, the enemy will be forced to change its plans and intentions regarding the redeployment of freed-up forces and resources to block the expansion of our operations in Russia's border regions," the speaker said.

According to him, the fact that combat operations are also taking place in the border areas of Russia’s Bryansk region is not a secret.

"Just as the enemy tries to attack Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions with its sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs), we are also taking action, diverting a significant portion of Russian forces and resources that, under other circumstances, would have undoubtedly and certainly been deployed in areas where the enemy considers territorial advantage critical—such as the Lyman, Chasiv Yar, and Pokrovsk directions," Vladyslav Seleznov concluded.
