On Sunday, May 11, thousands of people across Germany protested against right-wing extremism and demanded that the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party be banned.

In Berlin, protesters gathered at the Brandenburg Gate. Police estimated the number of participants at about 4,000, while organizers said about 7,500 protesters took part.

Organizers called on political leaders to begin formal procedures to ban the far-right AfD party, Germany's largest opposition party. In a statement, they argued that the issue of banning the party should not be seen as a political decision but as a legal matter.
