Yermak Names Condition For Ukraine And Its Allies To Start Talks With Russia

If the Kremlin refuses, harsh Western action will follow.

Ukraine expects a 30-day ceasefire from Putin to sit at the negotiating table. This was stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by the head of the Office of the Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak.

- Russia will try to get out from under sanctions, using the negotiation process as a cover. This format is driven by an obvious desire to lead everyone around by the nose. Does Washington want America to be led around by the nose? Do the Europeans want it? Definitely not. That is why we have a common approach with our partners: first ceasefire - then negotiations. This is confirmed by all the recent statements on both sides of the Atlantic," Yermak said.

He noted that Ukraine is ready to negotiate with Putin directly, as only he makes decisions at this level.

- Of course, he will delegate technical and preparatory stages - but we understand on whom everything is tied in the end.

Yermak also said that Europe should be involved in the process because "Ukraine is part of Europe, Ukraine is a future member of the European Union."

- Our position is that we need a just and long-term peace with security guarantees. And that is why we continue to insist that as a first step to start any negotiations, a 30-day ceasefire should be declared and clearly monitored. We believe that leadership should be with the Americans, who are well positioned to do so. Of course, with the participation of the Europeans," Yermak reiterated the ceasefire condition once again.

When asked by a journalist what actions the US and Europe would take if Russia starts to cheat and delay the negotiation process, Yermak replied:

- I know the details of the new sanctions package that could be applied. It is very tough, and it can be coordinated with the same European, British, Canadian and so on packages if it is applied, and it will really hurt a lot.
