Germany Gives Russia An Ultimatum By The End Of The Day

Ceasefire today or new sanctions.

The German government, in coordination with European partners, will prepare new sanctions if a ceasefire is not reached today, its spokesman Stephan Cornelius said at a briefing in Berlin, Bild wrote.

"Time has gone, we have 12 hours left until the end of the day," he said.

The leading European powers believe that the responsibility for moving towards peace in Ukraine now lies with Russia.

"Germany expects Russia to hold an immediate ceasefire and then be ready for negotiations. Ukraine is ready for that. It is now clear: Russia must step up," said German Foreign Minister Johan Wadeful.

French President Emmanuel Macron earlier also warned of "massive" sanctions from Europe and the United States if Russia refuses a ceasefire, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz added that massive military aid to Ukraine would continue.
