Kremlin Reacts To Ceasefire Proposal
Dmitry Peskov

Peskov said Russia was "given an ultimatum."

The head of the Kremlin's press service, Dmitri Peskov, reacted to Russia's proposed 30-day ceasefire.

"The language of ultimatums is unacceptable for Russia, it is not suitable. You cannot talk to Russia in this language," he said.

A "coalition of the willing" met in Kiev on May 10. Following the meeting, Ukraine, Europe and the United States called on Moscow for a 30-day cease-fire starting May 12 and threatened new sanctions if it refused.

Putin, in turn, offered to resume direct talks with Ukraine without preconditions on May 15 in Istanbul.

Peskov said this approach had found support among many foreign leaders. He did not respond to a question about the possible composition of the Russian delegation at these talks.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said Kiev was waiting for the fighting to be suspended from Monday and promised to personally come to Istanbul on Thursday for the meeting.
