Will A Tax On Childlessness Be Introduced In Belarus?

Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Yulia Berdnikova answered the question Telegraf.news whether there are plans to introduce a tax on childlessness in Belarus, as it was in the USSR.

"It's a sensitive question. Perhaps we should answer frankly and directly - the state has no such plans. We are looking for other more flexible levers, incentives to increase the birth rate. These are financial incentives that will help to get married in time and, accordingly, to create strong families and give birth to children in them," - said the Deputy Minister.

According to her, the state is concerned about the delayed time of marriage and later first pregnancy and subsequent pregnancies.

"If we used to combine the birth of the first child, and study at university, and subsequent employment, now the trend among young people - study and career," - said Berdnikova.
