Trump Has Declared A "complete Reset" In Relations With China

The U.S. president said Beijing and Washington had struck a "good" trade deal.

Beijing and Washington struck a "good" trade deal the day before after talks in Geneva that "opens up" China to US business, US President Donald Trump told reporters. The speech was broadcast on the White House's YouTube channel.

"Yesterday we achieved a complete reset of relations with China. After productive talks in Geneva, both sides agreed to reduce tariffs imposed after April 2 to 10 percent for 90 days as negotiations on the biggest structural issues continue," Trump said.

The U.S. president clarified that the agreement reached does not include duties on imports of cars, steel, aluminum "and the like," as well as pharmaceuticals because "we want to bring the pharmaceutical business back to the United States." This is already happening, he said, as companies do not want to pay large duties.

Trump emphasized that the U.S. "doesn't want to hurt" China, which has already suffered "a lot of damage" and relations between the countries are now "good." He admitted that he will talk to Chinese leader Si Jinping "at the end of the week".

The best part of the deal the US president believes is "opening up" China to the States, as it will bring "better unity" between the sides, US businesses will be able to compete with Chinese businesses, and Beijing will get more jobs.
