Media: In Istanbul, Zelensky Is Ready Only For A Direct Conversation With Putin

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is ready to talk only to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during possible talks in Istanbul.

An adviser to the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak said this, according to The Breakfast Show.

Podolyak was asked how Zelensky would proceed if Putin did not show up for the talks, and whether he could meet with someone other than Putin on the Russian side.

"No, of course. It's not a format. The president cannot meet ... especially Medinsky - not quite clear status will be ... Well, this person is hardly sufficient to discuss fundamental issues," Podolyak replied.

He noted that the structure of power in Russia is already obvious to everyone, and even Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov or Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin are unlikely to be authorized to make certain decisions.

"That is, only Putin can decide whether to continue or end the war. Well, maybe there is a small circle around him, which discusses how many and who should be killed," Podolyak said.

According to him, the design of the negotiation process in Istanbul is obvious: there is a person who makes a decision on the part of Ukraine and there is a person who makes a decision on the part of Russia. And everything else is a formal presence without result.

"This is again dragging out time. What is the point of holding a meeting at the lowest level," Podolyak said.
