Sikorski: Russia Recruited The Perpetrators Of The Warsaw Shopping Center Arson Via Telegram

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said that Russian intelligence services were behind a large-scale fire in a shopping center in Warsaw.

He said this in comments to the BBC (translated by censor.net ).

Sikorski said Moscow recruited the perpetrators of the crime through the messenger Telegram, and the perpetrators were paid to set the fire. The May 2024 fire at 2024 Maryville Street destroyed about 1,400 small businesses, mostly associated with the Vietnamese community. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

"This is absolutely unacceptable," Sikorski emphasized, noting that Poland responded by closing a second Russian consulate, this time in Krakow. Now there is only one Russian consulate left in the country, apart from the embassy in Warsaw. Another Russian mission in Poznan was closed in 2023 due to acts of sabotage and cyberattacks.

Sikorski also said that Poland is ready for further steps in case Russia's hybrid aggression continues, but expressed hope that the severing of diplomatic ties will be avoided.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk earlier said that Russia was behind the burning of a shopping center in Warsaw.
