Pope Names First Countries Where He Will Visit

Turkey, Ukraine and Peru will be the first countries that new Pope Leo XIV will visit as pontiff, reports La Repubblica .

According to the publication, upon taking the Holy See, Leo XIV will first travel to Turkey, Ukraine and Peru. Possible dates of his first foreign trips have not yet been specified. The new pope will visit the United States, where he himself is from, "not soon".

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had his first conversation with the pontiff on May 12. He discussed with him the situation with the ceasefire and negotiations with Russian Federation, and invited the pope to his country.

"Such a visit would bring real hope for all believers, for all our people," the politician said.
