US Threatens Russia With "very Serious" Sanctions

The statement was made by Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg.

The new sanctions that the United States is ready to impose against Russia in the absence of progress in resolving the war in Ukraine may be the toughest of all previously imposed. This was stated by the US president's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg in an interview with Fox News.

He answered a question about Washington's likely actions in case there is no progress on settling the war in Ukraine. The journalist asked about the US reaction to Moscow's decision not to confirm the 30-day ceasefire that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had proposed to start on May 12.

"These could be significant sanctions <...>. These sanctions are very serious. They are tougher than we have ever seen," the special envoy said.

Kellogg reminded that the US Congress has already prepared a bill on new sanctions against Russia. It was supported by more than 70 senators. The restrictions could be directed primarily at the Russian Central Bank or the "shadow fleet" that transports most of Russia's oil abroad.

The envoy also added that the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is very tough on new sanctions. At the same time, Europe is standing up for Ukraine.
