U.S. And Saudi Arabia Announce Arms Deal

Saudi Arabia's investment could rise to $1 trillion.

The United States and Saudi Arabia have announced an agreement on arms supplies worth $142 billion. This writes BBC, summarizing the first day of US President Donald Trump's visit to the Gulf states.

"On the first day of the visit, the United States and Saudi Arabia announced a $142 billion arms deal, as well as other investments that the country's crown prince says could eventually total $1 trillion," the BBC reports.

BBC calls the visit a step forward, comparing it to the reception of former US President Joe Biden, "who traveled to the oil-rich kingdom in 2022 to ask for help in lowering fuel prices."

Speaking in Riyadh, the US president also promised to lift all sanctions against Syria, which have been in place for more than a decade and have lost their meaning since the flight of President Bashar al-Assad. After all, Syria has elected a new transitional president, which opens up opportunities for US diplomacy.

Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa is reportedly seeking a meeting with US President Donald Trump during his trip to the Middle East. Sharaa is proposing a strategic agreement that includes U.S. access to Syrian energy resources, cooperation with Israel and the construction of Trump Tower in Damascus.
