Doctors In Grodno Have Created A New Ear For A Child With An Anomaly

Hrodna University Hospital performed a unique operation to create a new ear shell for a child with a congenital developmental anomaly. The clinic reported about it in its Telegram channel.

Doctors explained that congenital ear anomalies are defects that lead to changes in the shape and position of the ear, affecting both the skin and its cartilage, which can subsequently cause difficulties in the adaptation of children in society. There are several types of congenital anomalies of the ear, which are divided into 3 degrees of dysplasia, ranging from small defects to the absence of normal structures of the auricle.

"A highly qualified multidisciplinary team was formed to operate on this patient. The challenge facing the operating surgeons was to recreate a three-dimensional auricle structure, size and position that most closely replicates the contours of the natural ear, while leveling out the dissonance with the opposite side. To reconstruct the complex shape of the autologous reconstruction, a cartilage framework is created from the child's own rib cartilage," the clinic said.

Thanks to the improvement of the technique, the number of operations was reduced to two.

"The result of the surgical intervention is "complete" satisfaction with the appearance of the result of the operation of both the child and his parents, which reflects a high level of aesthetic and clinical success!", the clinic said.
