The question of his extradition is being decided.
The former first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) has been detained in Spain. This was reported on Wednesday, May 14, by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
The name of the figurehead is not officially disclosed, but Ukrainian media, in particular the publications Ukrainska Pravda and Suspilne, citing sources, write that we are talking about Oleh Gladkovsky (Svynarchuk), who held a post in the SNBO from 2015 to 2019.
Gladkovsky, who is described as one of the main business partners of Ukraine's fifth president Petro Poroshenko, has been wanted since April 2024, in his home country he is accused of causing damage to the state worth more than 17 million hryvnias. Now the issue of his extradition to Ukraine is being resolved.
The version of the investigation, the former SNBO official in 2017 in collusion with the acting director of one of the departments of the Ministry of Defense and the former Deputy Minister of Defense organized the purchase of off-road trucks MAZ 6317 within the framework of the state order at illegally inflated prices. The amount of damage caused to the state is estimated at UAH 17.44 million.
The press release about his detention says that he "used the power and official position given to him contrary to the interests of service in order to obtain illegal benefits" by the structure in which he and his close persons have a share of ownership (PJSC "Automobile Company "Bogdan Motors"). The cars were purchased from the enterprise "Auto Assembly Plant No. 2", which is a part of Bogdan Motors. Gladkovskyy managed the corporation "Bogdan", a share in which Poroshenko had, recalls "Ukrainska Pravda".
An indictment against Gladkovskyy was sent to court back in July 2021. In April 2024, the NABU put him on a wanted list, and in May of the same year, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine chose Gladkovskyy's preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia.
