The statement came hours after Trump offered Iran an "Olive Branch."
Iran is ready to sign a nuclear agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump in exchange for lifting economic sanctions.
A top adviser to Iran's supreme leader Ali Shamkhani said this, NBC News reported.
He said Iran would pledge to:
never produce nuclear weapons;
get rid of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium that could be used as weapons;
agree to enrich uranium only to the lower levels needed for civilian use and allow international inspectors to monitor the process.
He added that these steps could be realized in exchange for the immediate lifting of all economic sanctions. Asked if Iran would agree to sign the agreement today if those conditions were met, Shamkhani said, "Yes."
"It is still possible. If the Americans act as they say they will, there is no doubt that we can have better relations. It can lead to an improvement in the near future," the top adviser to Iran's supreme leader added.
Shamkhani gave the NBC interview just hours after Trump offered Iran an "Olive Branch," which was accompanied by threats of tougher economic sanctions if Iran did not accept an agreement to curb the country's nuclear program.
Iran's representative in turn expressed disappointment with Trump's tone and his threats, which continue.
"He's talking about an olive branch that we haven't seen. It's all barbed wire," he said.
