The group of Ukrainian negotiators will be headed by the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
The Ukrainian delegation that will go to Istanbul for talks with Russia will be led by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Vladimir Zelensky said Vladimir Zelensky after a meeting with Turkish President Redzep Erdogan.
"Out of respect for President Trump, out of respect for the high level of the Turkish delegation and respect for President Erdogan, and wanting to demonstrate Ukraine's desire to demonstrate at least achieving the first steps, at least a ceasefire, I decided to send our delegation to Istanbul, but not all of them. There will be no head of the Security Service of Ukraine, no chief of the General Staff. But the delegation will be headed by the defense minister," the president said.
In addition, Ukraine's representatives will remain in Istanbul on May 16.
The Kremlin confirmed earlier on May 15 that dictator Vladimir Putin would not come to Turkey for talks with Ukraine. Instead, he sent to Istanbul his aide Vladimir Medinsky, deputy foreign minister Mikhail Galuzin, deputy defense minister Alexander Fomin and the chief of the General Staff's Main Directorate Igor Kostyukov.
