Belarus Ranked 166th In The Press Freedom Index

There are 180 countries represented in the ranking.
Belarus ranked 167th in the press freedom rating. This is stated in the report, published on the website of Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Our country sits between Cuba and Azerbaijan.
"34 countries stand out for the massive closure of their media, which has led to the expulsion of journalists in recent years. This is especially true for Nicaragua (172nd place), Belarus (166), Iran (176), Myanmar (169), Sudan (156), Azerbaijan (167) and Afghanistan (175), where economic hardship exacerbates the effects of political pressure," RSF notes.
The first ten places in the ranking are (in descending order): Norway, Estonia, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Czech Republic.
The worst situation with press freedom is in Russia, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, China, North Korea and Eritrea.
The ranking includes 180 countries. Belarus ranked 167th in the index-2024, 157th in 2023 and 153rd in 2022.
According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, 40 media representatives are behind bars.
