British intelligence revealed the details.
Russia is approaching a new peak in frontline casualties. This year could be a record year for Moscow in terms of military losses.
The British Defense Ministry reported this in X (Twitter).
According to analysts, Russia has probably lost about 950,000 military personnel killed and wounded in the war against Ukraine since the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. At the same time, Russia has probably lost about 160,000 soldiers in the first four months of 2025.
"If this rate of losses continues through the end of 2025, this year will become the most expensive year of the war in terms of Russian personnel losses, continuing the trend of increasing losses year after year," the brief said.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, average daily Russian casualties in April 2025 were just over 1,200, and 36,000 overall for the month.
In March, average daily Russian casualties were about 1,300. The highest Russian losses were recorded in late 2024 (almost 1,600 per day) as the Russian Federation tried to seize new territory.
"So far in 2025, Russia has been unable to turn sustained heavy losses into significant gains in Ukraine," British intelligence notes.
