Potatoes From Belarusian Stores Went To Russia?

Belarus became the largest supplier of potatoes to the Russian Federation in 2024.

Belarus has overtaken Egypt and China in potato exports to Russia.

According to the UN platform Comtrade, national statistical portals and open sources, Belarus sent a record 193.8 thousand tons of potatoes to Russia, which allowed the country to take the first place in the list of exporters, displacing Egypt.

In comparison, Egypt, having lost the leadership, supplied 75.3 thousand tons of potatoes worth almost $48 million. China, which entered the top three for the first time since 2019, sent 46.7 thousand tons of products worth $17.3 million to Russia.

After the top three were Azerbaijan (42.5 thousand tons), Georgia (8.4 thousand tons), Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia and Germany.

Significant growth of supplies from some countries was also recorded: imports from Armenia increased 805 times, imports from Turkey - 47 times, from Georgia - 7 times, from China - 5 times, and from Kyrgyzstan - more than 3 times.

It should be noted that Belarus has started serious deficit of potatoes.
