"Real Madrid" Is Recognized As The Most Expensive Soccer Club

The club from Madrid was valued at $6.53 billion.

Real Madrid has become the most expensive soccer club in the world. According to Sportico, Real Madrid soccer club is valued at $6.53 billion.

The top 5 also includes England's Manchester United ($6.09 billion), Spain's Barcelona ($5.71 billion), England's Liverpool ($5.59 billion) and Bayern Munich ($5.21 billion). The 10 most expensive teams in the world are based in Europe, but the North American Major League Soccer (MLS) has the most clubs in the top 50 with 19 teams. The English Premier League (APL) ranks second in terms of representation with 14, while Italy's Serie A ranks third with 5. In total, the 50 most expensive soccer clubs in the world are worth $86 billion.

It is noted that the total income of clubs is specified excluding transfers and value added tax. It includes three main categories: revenues from TV broadcasts, commercial activities and match income.

Television revenues are generated by domestic and international broadcast contracts. This also includes prize money from tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League. In the 2023/24 season, Manchester City had the highest broadcast revenues at $371 million, topping the English Premier League, which has the most lucrative TV rights of any league, and earning an additional nearly $120 million for reaching the Champions League quarterfinals.

Commercial revenues include revenue from sponsorship agreements, advertising, corporate hospitality, catering and non-matchday events. As Sportico points out, a shirt sponsor and a contract with a technical partner generate huge sums for top clubs. Emirates, for example, pays Real Madrid more than $70 million a year to place its logo on the team's home and away uniforms, while Manchester United's contract with Adidas is estimated to be worth at least $100 million a year and includes global rights to sell merchandise with the three stripes. Bayern Munich earned a record $455 million in the commercial revenue category thanks to partnerships with Deutsche Telekom, Adidas, Audi and Allianz.

Match revenues include ticket sales, membership fees, and proceeds from cup tournaments and pre-season meetings. According to the source, this item is generally the least significant in European soccer in terms of volume. At the same time, Real Madrid earned $346 million here, including $82 million from the sale of personalized season tickets for seats at the stadium - this is twice as much as any other club.
