Pope Leo XIV Leads Mass In The Sistine Chapel For The First Time
Leo XIV

The pontiff began his sermon in English.

New Pope Leo XIV led his first Mass in the Sistine Chapel the day after his election, Friday, May 9, to mark the conclusion of the conclave, writes New Voice.

Dressed in white robes, the pope began the service with a prayer. He then addressed the cardinals.

"God has called me by your election to succeed the Prince of Apostles and entrusted me with this treasure," he said.

"I know that I can count on each of you to walk with me together," the pontiff said.

After the Mass, Leo XIV will have lunch with the cardinals who elected him, after which they will be able to leave the Vatican for their homes around the world.
