UK Introduces New Package Of Sanctions Against Russia

Oil traders and not only oil traders have fallen under the restrictions.

Today, the UK announced a new package of sanctions against Russia. Among others, several directors of the oil trading company Coral Energy Group, now known as 2Rivers Group, were hit by the sanctions, the Reuters news agency reported (translated by Charter97.org).

The broader package of sanctions affected about 100 Russian oil tankers belonging to the so-called "shadow fleet." The announcement of the sanctions coincided with a meeting of leaders of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), a Nordic security alliance, in Norway on Friday.

The official British government notice states that Ahmed Kerimov, Tahir Garayev, Anar Madatli, Talat Safarov and Ettibar Eyyub "benefited from or contributed to the support of the Russian government" by serving as directors of Coral Energy Group.

Coral Energy changed its name to 2Rivers Group after a management buyout in 2024 by Safarov, Kerimov and Madatli.

Coral Energy was founded by Garayev in 2010 with offices in Dubai and Singapore.

British authorities said Coral Energy was "operating in a sector of strategic importance to the Russian government - the Russian energy sector."

Britain had already imposed sanctions against 2Rivers in December 2024. At the time, the company expressed deep disappointment with the decision.
